This painting is based on a poem that one of my childhood friends wrote many years ago when she was struggling with the dichotomy between outward appearance and spiritual, inner beauty. I'm not sure whether or not my painting touches on the spiritual aspect of it, but it's one of probably several that I'll do exploring that theme.
